This week, B Lab and Acumen announced that PULSE is being incorporated into B Analytics. B Analytics is a customizable platform that various players in the impact space use for measuring, benchmarking and reporting on impact. In 2006, Acumen developed PULSE, a software that enables impact investors to collect, manage and report on the impact of their investees. With this integration, B Analytics is now the only fully integrated data and technology platform for investors to measure their impact of their portfolios using custom impact metrics as well as comparable GIIRS Ratings built on the IRIS catalog.

Why It Matters
Currently, there are over 300 funds in the impact investing space, and JP Morgan estimates that $4 billion were invested in impact-focused companies in 2012 alone. Now more than ever, there is a great need for systems of measurement in the impact investing field. “As our industry continues to grow and evolve, so too should the systems we use to monitor our work and the impact we are having. It’s incredibly exciting to see this type of progress and think about the potential learnings we will uncover,” said Jacqueline Novogratz, founder and CEO of Acumen.
As the industry continues to evolve, so do the conversations on financing and measurement. Last week Tom Adams, Acumen’s Head of Impact, suggested that the size of resources might be greater if more emphasis is placed on evaluation of impact. The standardization of impact metrics with B Analytics has the potential to support why we need more financial resources for the industry, and how we should be allocating these resources in order to maximize the power of our investments.
