Drought and Famine in East Africa: You Can Help
Dear Friends of Acumen,
The worst drought in 60 years is ravaging Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti and Somalia. According to the United Nations, thousands of Somalis are leaving their country. Just one refugee camp, Dadaab in Kenya, has capacity for 90,000 people and is estimated to have more than 380,000 people today, with nearly 5,000 people arriving every week. We mourn the terrible loss of life, and want to support the hundreds of thousands of vulnerable men, women and children who are suffering in this crisis. To learn more about the conditions in Dadaab, listen to this radio interview.
Many have come to us asking what they can do to help. We would recommend the following organizations for your support.
- Mercy Corps
- International Rescue Committee
- Kenyas4Kenya Initiative, which is raising money to donate to Kenya Red Cross Society
