Increasing productivity and improving the lives of low-income, smallholder farmers

Acumen started investing in Agriculture in 2008. Our investments span innovations across our geographies such as hybrid seed varieties, access to financing for smallholder farmers, to mobile-technology to ensure farmers receive fair pay for their crops, and more.

Improving the livelihoods

of smallholder farmers

Our investments better the lives of the poor and low-income families by improving smallholder farmers’ access to better agricultural inputs and markets for the sale of their goods.

Why Agriculture?

600 million people in Acumen’s geographies are dependent on agriculture and living on less than $2 a day. Agricultural productivity in our geographies is also 60 times lower than in high-income nations. Acumen started investing in Agriculture in 2008. We invest in companies whose products both increase farmers’ productivity and allow farmers to earn more from what they are producing.  Our companies provide improved hybrid seed varieties, give smallholder farmers access to financing and to mobile-technology to ensure farmers receive fair pay for their crops, and more.
