Each year entrepreneurs from around the world – all committed to tackling the world’s toughest environmental and social problems – converge at the Unreasonable Institute in Boulder, Colorado to accelerate their venture and scale their impact. For five weeks, these entrepreneurs live together in a house, attend workshops, meet with world-class mentors, and pitch to dozens of investors.
The Unreasonable Institute recently completed it’s fourth acceleration program in Boulder. Their team is now on the search for its 2014 cohort with a few changes in place for next year’s Institute. For example, the Institute will be five weeks compared to six and open to for-profit, non-profit and hybrid organizations. Check out the rest of the eligibility requirements.
Among the most exciting changes to the Unreasonable Institute is their decision to open two new institutes, Unreasonable Mexico and Unreasonable East Africa! “Our flagship program in Boulder is going strong, but it has its limits,” says Teju Ravilochan, CEO of the Unreasonable Institute. “We want to support entrepreneurs all over the world in their own languages and in their own contexts. To do that, we need to have programs that are rooted near the markets where our ventures work.”
These teams experienced the Institute first hand last summer and are now launching their own based on the core principles and lessons learned. The biggest difference between the three institutes beyond location is the stage of the ventures accepted into each. Unreasonable Mexico and Unreasonable East Africa will serve earlier stage entrepreneurs and create a pipeline of support within the markets their entrepreneurs serve. So why Unreasonable? The “unreasonable advantage” given to entrepreneurs includes: a strong network of over 50 seasoned mentors ranging from a Founder of 3 companies with billion-dollar exits to the Director of Strategy at BRAC (which has helped 100 million people lift themselves out of poverty), access to over 250 investors, and a series of workshops led by their key mentors. Since leaving the Unreasonable Institute, our 82 entrepreneurs have raised over $35.22 million and average revenues have grown 2.8 times after just one year.
As a result, entrepreneurs leave with clarity of their venture’s strategy, confidence and most importantly a community of mentors, investors and like-minded entrepreneurs. Once you are a part of this so called “Unreasonable Tribe,” you also have access to the right resources and people to help support you through your journey such as pro-bono leadership coaches, sharing of best practices, and access to funder database with investors from all corners of the world.
