Rather than investing traditional capital, we invest philanthropic, or “patient,” capital that provides startups with the flexibility and security to grow their business and reach as many poor customers as possible.
Acumen Pakistan is harnessing the power of entrepreneurship to help low-income Pakistanis out of poverty
Neither the markets nor aid alone can solve the problems of poverty. More than two billion people around the world lack access to basic goods and services—from clean water and electricity to education and the freedom to participate in the economy. We’re here to change that. Our vision is a world based on dignity, where every human being has the same opportunity. Rather than giving philanthropy away, we invest it in companies and change makers.
Acumen was globally founded on the belief that while traditional charity and international aid often meet the immediate needs of the four billion people living on less than four dollars a day, alone they will not solve the problems of poverty, market-based approaches have the potential to be sustainable when charitable dollars run out, and such approaches also recognize that individuals seek dignity, not dependence, in their lives. Acumen is building a unique model for philanthropy that links economic donors to effective strategies that target the underlying problems of global poverty.
