Sally Gitonga is an Investment Director at Acumen’s Hardest to Reach Amplify Debt Fund, where she leads investments in debt financing renewable energy enterprises serving underserved and off-grid communities across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Sally brings more than 20 years of experience in impact investing, blended finance, private credit, and SME finance across Africa. Before joining Acumen, she served as Investment Director for the BUILD Fund at Bamboo Capital Partners, managing a blended finance debt portfolio supporting SMEs across least-developed countries. She also served as Director of Investments Portfolio at the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF), supporting financing initiatives focused on climate resilience, food security, and inclusive economic growth.
Earlier in her career, Sally served as Country Manager at Business Partners International Kenya. She also held senior banking positions with Commercial Bank of Africa and Barclays Bank Kenya.
Sally holds an MBA from USIU-Africa and a First Class Honours degree in Economics and Sociology from the University of Nairobi. She holds Certifications in ESG & Impact Investing, and Climate & Renewable Energy Finance from Frankfurt School of Finance and Management: Certified Trustee, and Modern Board Direction from Boardroom Africa.
