The challenge
While 74% of Kenyan households watch TV once per week, only eight of the 137 TV channels meet the regulatory requirement to broadcast five hours of children’s content a week. This limits the ability to provide education via television, a technique has been used since the 1950s.
The innovation
Akili Network launched Akili Kids!, the first and only dedicated kids TV channel in Kenya. Five million children and four million parents (co-viewing) watch weekly, meaning Akili Network reaches one in every four Kenyan children. Ninety-eight percent of parents said they strongly trusted the channel.
