Babatunde Usman

Babatunde holds a bachelor’s degree in Business and International Relations from Aston University and an MSc in International Business from Aston Business School in Birmingham, UK. He joins the Acumen West Africa team as a Senior Investment Associate and brings to the team experience spanning principal investments, portfolio management, financial advisory, and gender lens impact investing across various geographies. Prior to joining Acumen, he worked at Aruwa Capital Management, a pioneer gender impact fund based in Nigeria where he worked on equity investments while also taking a lead role within the portfolio management team. Babatunde also previously worked as an investment analyst at Platform Capital Investment Partners where he worked as a member of the tech investment team deploying capital to startups and early-stage companies in Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Mexico, and the United States of America. Through working with a sector-agnostic investment approach, Babatunde has developed industry knowledge across various sectors and business models including consumer goods, healthcare, renewable energy, fintech, education, and media. Babatunde is passionate about changing the African investment landscape through deploying much-needed strategic capital in an ethical and timely manner to usually overlooked entrepreneurs and enterprises in order to unlock the vast untapped potential across the continent. He believes well-structured patient capital is the required catalyst to inspire impactful change across the continent. Babs supports the team in executing the overall investment strategy, goals and ambitions while also assisting with enhancing the portfolio management and operations capabilities. Outside of work, Babs enjoys nature by spending time on the beaches of Lagos, watching docuseries, and spending quality time with family and friends.
