The challenge
India’s informal waste workforce—millions of people, mostly from marginalized communities—labors in unsafe conditions for low, irregular wages and with limited opportunities to advance. Waste management enterprises struggle with thin margins, inconsistent waste quality, higher proportion of hard to recycle multi layered plastic, and little traceability, while consumer brands lack access to reliable, real-time household insights. The result is a system where workers remain vulnerable, businesses operate without data, and large volumes of waste go undervalued or mismanaged.
The innovation
Bintix is a pioneering waste-to-insights intelligence platform that turns household dry waste into meaningful consumer data while creating formal, tech-enabled jobs. The company collects QR-coded waste from 40,000 households across seven cities, analyzing over 800 product categories that provide brands with granular, real-time consumption insights. Cleaner waste streams also generate higher-value material for waste partners, strengthening their economics. With plans to scale to 100,000+ households and launch its self-service analytics platform, Bintelligence, Bintix is redefining how waste, technology, and market research intersect in India.
The impact
Bintix is transforming work for the people historically most excluded from India’s economy. More than 120 frontline workers now earn formal wages, incentives, and safer conditions—moving from around ₹10,000 a month to ₹15,000–24,000 while gaining new skills in scanning, sorting, and digital cataloging. As the company expands, Bintix aims to create ~2000 formal jobs, turning informal labor into stable, respected, tech-enabled roles that bring more predictable income, stronger margins, and visibility to once invisible brand data.
