The challenge
A massive youth bulge looms in India: nearly half the population is under 25, with millions entering the workforce monthly. While education enrollment and literacy rates appear promising, a closer look reveals a struggling system. High dropout rates and rote memorization leave graduates unprepared, creating ongoing challenges for India’s future economic growth.
The innovation
Hippocampus Learning Centers (HLC) aims to address the growing demand for quality education in India by providing a specialized curriculum that will better prepare children and youth from low-income rural communities for advanced education and employment opportunities. The Bangalore-based organization addresses the glaring gaps in the local education system by establishing kindergarten and after-school support centers within the villages, operated by trained local women. HLC charges an affordable fee to cover the operational costs to provide high-quality, affordable, community-based education services focused on improving learning outcomes and ensuring children excel.
