The Challenge
Smallholder poultry farmers in Nigeria face persistent barriers to fair and reliable markets. Many depend on informal middlemen who offer extremely low prices for chickens and often delay payments, leaving farmers with unstable incomes and limited bargaining power. At the same time, limited access to training, quality inputs, and veterinary support leads to high flock mortality and lost investments. These constraints discourage consistent production and contribute to seasonal shortages in poultry supply.
The Innovation
Pullus Africa Solutions Limited aggregates chickens from smallholder farmers and supplies them directly to retailers, restaurants, hotels, and food chain stores across Nigeria. By identifying reliable buyers and negotiating fair prices, Pullus enables farmers to access stable markets without relying on exploitative intermediaries. The company also provides extension services, training, and input financing to improve flock health, management practices, and farm productivity. Together, these services help farmers reduce mortality rates and build more sustainable poultry businesses.
The Impact
Pullus has registered more than 6,000 smallholder farmers on its platform and trained over 28,000 farmers in poultry management and business practices. Nearly half of participating farmers live on less than $3.65 per day, and many report improved incomes and business performance through Pullus’ reliable market access and rapid payment model. The company sold approximately 246,000 birds in 2025 and aims to scale significantly in the coming years as it expands into new states across Nigeria, strengthening food supply while improving farmer livelihoods.
