About this report

Youths and women in sub-Saharan Africa face limited formal employment opportunities, often turning to the informal economy for survival. Yet, too many remain trapped in low-income, precarious work that perpetuates poverty. Our research, conducted in partnership with BFA, reveals the four core elements youths value in decent work – fair income, safety, flexibility, and autonomy – and how integrating these into work opportunities can create pathways out of poverty. This report provides actionable insights for investors, social enterprises, and policymakers looking to create work opportunities that align with youth aspirations and drive sustainable economic growth.
