Matthew Courey

Matthew Courey is Founding Partner and Chief Operating Officer at AlbaCore Capital Group, a European credit manager based in London. In this role, Matt oversees overall firm strategy, product development, risk management, portfolio strategy and attribution, team building and operational execution. Matt has over 20 years’ experience within credit markets in various capacities, including serving as a Managing Director and head of the high yield bond trading team at Credit Suisse, and prior to that working at Morgan Stanley as both a research analyst and trader in the fixed income credit business.
Matt is an advocate for broadening the lens through which we look at capital deployment and analysis. He has been actively championing Carbon Conscious Investing within the private credit markets in Europe. He has also served on the Investment Committee of Al Fanar, the Arab World’s first venture philanthropy organization, which focuses on funding and supporting social entrepreneurs with a focus on Lebanon and Egypt.
Matt is also a passionate supporter of dialogue across lines of difference, having served on the Board of Trustees of Seeds of Peace for a decade, including a period as Vice-Chair of the Board. In his time on the Board, Matt helped develop various programmatic and strategic initiatives including the development of Board governance, diversity and structure. He also served as the Chair of Seeds of Peace UK, a UK-registered charity, and oversaw the outreach and cultivation of a broad-based community of supporters over approximately 15 years.
Matt graduated summa cum laude from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a minor in French. A Lebanese-American originally from Boston, Matt lives in London with his wife Mercedes. An avid traveller, he has spent time in over 110 countries, and enjoys dancing tango, playing classical music on the piano, and learning about wine.
