Lack of access to quality, affordable education and training opportunities has serious impacts for the poor. New solutions are needed.

Acumen started investing in Education in 2011 with a focus on education services and skills or vocational training for low-income customers. By investing in a portfolio of solutions addressing education, we are helping to close the gap between access, quality, and affordability to generate pathways out of poverty for millions.

Why Education?

Currently, 70% of all children not in school globally are in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.  In India alone, 140 million children lack access to education.  Additionally, there are over 180 million unskilled youth in India.  Although the job market is booming for basic skills (hospitality, machinery, drivers, electric), due to large gaps in education quality, India faces critical shortages in skilled labor. Available solutions do not predicate quality of service, and private solutions are often unattainable for low-income customers. Acumen is investing in Education to support solutions that fill the gap in access to quality and affordable education and skills training.
