Acumen has invested in Bintix Waste Research Private Limited, a pioneering waste-tech company that turns household dry waste into high-value consumer insights that create new opportunities for India’s informal waste workforce. This marks Acumen’s first investment in a waste-tech insights company, underscoring a commitment to creating dignified employment in high-growth sustainability sectors.

Bintix operates at a unique intersection of technology, waste management, and market research. The company collects QR-coded household waste from 40,000 premium homes across seven cities, analyzing more than 800 product categories and delivering real-time consumption insights to brands across personal and home care, food and beverages, electronics, over- the-counter pharmaceuticals, and more. The cleaner waste streams generated through this system unlock higher revenues for waste management partners especially for the hard-to-recycle multi-layered plastics (MLP), while building formal, safer jobs for frontline workers.

“We started Bintix with a simple idea: that waste has a story to tell,” said Jayanarayan Kulathingal and Roshan Miranda, Co-Founders of Bintix. “By using technology to capture those stories, we’ve learned how to turn something overlooked into data, dignity, and opportunity. This investment from Acumen allows us to scale our impact, provide greater traceability, and shift toward a product-driven model that reaches more communities, continuing our journey towards a future where waste work is safer, respected, and economically empowering.”

Bintix is part of Acumen’s Green Growth Initiative, which is re-imagining India’s green job revolution by investing in companies that serve millions of informal workers in the waste management system. Acumen’s investment will accelerate Bintix’s next phase of growth, including geographic expansion to five additional cities to reach 100,000+ households, extending waste-derived insights to new sectors and launching its self-service analytics platform Bintelligence, and adding new capacity across business development, partner support, and field operations. The capital will also help Bintix strengthen its data infrastructure and transition from raw-data delivery to real-time, actionable insights.

“Bintix is proving that waste work can be formal, tech-enabled, and aspirational,” said Mahesh Yagnaraman, Acumen India Director. “Their technology cleverly links household waste to real market insights, unlocking new revenue pathways for waste enterprises and creating safer, better-paid jobs for workers who have long been excluded from economic opportunity. We’re proud to back a model that transforms an extractive industry into one rooted in dignity, inclusion, and data-driven innovation.”

Today, 120+ frontline workers receive formal wages, performance incentives, and safer working conditions through Bintix’s partner network. By 2030, the company aims to create nearly 2,000 direct jobs, offering more stable incomes with upskilling pathways into barcode scanning, mobile-app operations, and other tech-enabled roles.

With every household Bintix adds, waste workers earn more predictable income, waste management partners diversify revenue, and brands gain an unprecedented window into real consumer behavior—creating a self-reinforcing system where economic opportunity and data innovation grow together.
