The Challenge

Trapped in a cycle of poverty, sub-Saharan Africa’s small-scale fish farmers grapple with limited access to quality fish feed and fingerlings, hindered by inadequate capital and shortchanging practices. Lacking technical knowledge and facing bureaucratic hurdles, they struggle with low production, slow cycles, and unreliable income. Climate change compounds their woes, leading to lost income, debt, and dwindling job opportunities. Empowering these farmers necessitates improved access to financing, high-quality inputs, and training, alongside streamlined permitting and climate-resilient practices. By breaking this cycle, we can secure livelihoods, enhance food security, and revitalize the region’s vital fishing industry.

The Innovation

AquaRech empowers small-scale fish farmers with comprehensive training, from pond construction to environmental practices, filling the crucial knowledge gap. They break down barriers to quality inputs by offering superior fish feed via their app, creating a unique aquafeed marketplace. Farmers gain access to fair markets through the company’s innovative linkage model. This results in improved production (faster cycles, higher yields), reduced costs, and increased profits. Additionally, flexible credit options (90 days for feed, 24 hours for sales) ease financial burdens. By not only addressing technical aspects but also bridging knowledge gaps and fostering market access, Aquarech offers a holistic solution that improves production, lowers costs, and increases profits for farmers.
