New CMO joins Acumen to drive forward mission of changing the way the world tackles poverty

NEW YORK – Acumen, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to tackling poverty and driving social change, is delighted to announce the appointment of Alexandra Gordon as its new Chief Marketing and Communications Officer.

Before joining Acumen, Gordon served as President and Partner at Matter Unlimited, an award-winning social impact consultancy operating at the intersection of culture, capital, and cause. Under Gordon’s leadership, Matter Unlimited achieved notable recognition, including Emmy Awards nominations and accolades at The Cannes Lions Festival and The Anthem Awards. Through her work, she participated in global gatherings highlighting the power of narrative building in driving systems change, including the United Nations where she spoke on the vital role of storytelling in the fight to end maternal mortality. Gordon has spearheaded transformative projects in collaboration with some of the world’s most respected foundations, nonprofits, and brands, including The Obama Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, Nike, Merck for Mothers, and Omidyar Network. Her commitment to building movements extends to her role as President of the Board for The 49%, a media company reframing the dialogue around women’s rights through film, advocacy, education, and community.

“The Acumen global community is filled with change makers who have innovative ideas, bountiful determination, and unrelenting resilience. I am honored to be entrusted with telling some of their stories and amplifying the insights and impact of this incredible organization,” says Gordon.

In her new role at Acumen, Gordon will lead an in-house team of strategists, writers, designers, data practitioners, and marketers to guide and activate Acumen’s brand voice in meaningful ways.

“Acumen deeply values the power of narrative building, so we are delighted to welcome Alexandra who brings such a depth and breadth of social impact experience and creativity to lead our marketing and communications team,” says Carlyle Singer, President of Acumen.  “We look forward to finding new opportunities to connect with our audiences and to inspire systemic change in the fight to solve the problems of poverty globally.”
