Tony Wainaina

Tony Wainaina is the Founder and Director at Origins IGA Limited, a firm that provides financial and management advisory services to commercial enterprises. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Strathmore Business School. 
 
Over the past 23 years, Anthony has accumulated extensive experience at all levels of originating, executing, and exiting both equity and debt transactions in Africa, which include a broad spectrum of start-up, early stage, and later stage transactions. 
 
Early in his career, Anthony was responsible for originating and executing direct equity investments in 15 African countries for Citibank’s $50 million Direct Equity Investment Fund. After leaving Citibank, he was hired as CEO and Managing Director at ICDC Investment CO, which was East Africa’s largest publicly quoted investment company. After leaving ICDC, Anthony was hired as CEO and Managing Director of Trans-Century Limited, a diversified investment holding company involved in buyout, acquisition, and private equity activity in sub-Saharan Africa. He served as a financial advisor to the Government of Uganda for three years, and most recently was a Managing Partner at Fanisi Capital, a venture capital fund invested in high potential small and medium sized enterprises in East Africa. While at Fanisi, Anthony helped raise two funds (combined committed total of $76 million), which included international DFIs, that invested in agribusiness, education, healthcare, and retail/consumer sectors.
 
Anthony holds a BSc in Agricultural Economics from the University of London, and an MBA from Georgetown University, where he received the Thomas Jefferson Fellowship.
